Shot Roots came to be in March of 2013, at a Philadelphia playwriting event called "Spring Ahead," where artists received three ingredients to "bake" into a play over the course of a weekend. The ingredients were chosen by New Haven-based playwright Dipika Guha, Chicago-based director Matthew Ozawa, and the Emerging Artists in Residence (EAR) Actors' Residency, and they were 1- A Picture of Queen Victoria, 2- An X-Ray of a Broken Jaw,  3- A Moment That is Impossible to Stage.

The combination of these ingredients with Asim's imagination gave way to the very first draft of Shot Roots. This play is a major step forward in increasing the representation of queer people of color and muslims in mainstream settings. Visibility matters!

Performance times are:

  • Friday March 25th, 7PM

  • Saturday March 26th, 7PM
